Prof. Evan M. Melhado is interested in the history of American public health, health care, and health care policy, especially since the late-nineteenth century. Representative publications include “Innovation and Public Accountability in Clinical Research,” Milbank Quarterly, 1999 17(1):111-172, “Economic Theory, Economists, and the Formulation of Public Policy,” Journal of Health Politics, Policy, and Law, 2000 25(1):233-256; and “Health Planning in the United States and the Decline of Public-interest Policymaking,” Milbank Quarterly, 2006 84(2):359-439. Professor Melhado received his doctorate in history, with specialization in history of science, from Princeton University in 1977.
