Professor of History

Professor Buckler specializes in Greece in the fourth century B.C.; Boiotian studies; Greek topography; and Plutarch. His current research focuses on the first modern, systematic book on the history of Greece in the fourth century BC, to be published by E.J. Brill. Selected publications include The Theban Hegemony, 371-362 BC (Cambridge, Mass.: Harvard University Press, 1980); Philip II and the Sacred War (Leiden: E. J. Brill, 1989); and John Buckler and H. Beister, BOIOTIKA: VortrSge vom 5. Internationalen Bsotien-Kolloquium (Munich: Editio Maris, 1989). Professor Buckler received his doctorate from Harvard University in 1978.
