Gary G. Porton
Professor of History, Religious Studies and Comparative Literature
Professor Porton specializes in the history of religions; and Judaism. His current research focuses on literature, culture and religion of Judaism in late antiquity. Selected publications include Goyim: Gentiles and Israelites in Mishnah-Tosefta (Atlanta: Scholars Press, 1988); and "Rabbi Ishmael and His Thirteen Middot" in J. Neusner, R Borgen et al. (eds.), New Perspectives on Ancient Judaism: Religion, Literature, and Society in Ancient Israel (Lanham: University Press of America, 1987). Professor Porton received his doctorate from Brown University in 1973.
