New Placement Procedures

As of July 2005 the History Department will no longer be handling placement files for graduate students (both former and current) on the job market.  For all graduate students defending January 2005 or after  we will be funding a three-year account with Interfolio, an internet dossier service.  If you defended your dissertation prior to this date, we are suggesting that you establish an account with Interfolio at your own expense (cost is nominal).  If you defended after this date, please contact Tom Bedwell in 309 Gregory Hall about establishing an account via the department.

Please note: You will need to request that new letters from recommenders be sent directly to Interfolio as the department cannot send its past letters to the service.  Prior to doing this, please set up your interfolio account as the new letters require a dossier number in order to be linked to your file.  Further information is available at the site.

If you are not familiar with this service, we encourage you to go to www.interfolio.com and explore the site.  They have excellent coverage of frequently asked questions and explain the various options and services that they provide in detail.  In addition to establishing a file in which you can include anything from writing samples to cv, etc., Interfolio will mail out confidential copies of reference letters and transcripts which are recognized as official by receiving institutions.  Please note, job letters should NOT be sent through Interfolio, since these are personalized and should arrive with your signature
