The Women's Caucus of the Department of History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

The Women’s Caucus Representative and the Women’s Caucus Coordinator will act as the co-chairs of Women’s Caucus.  Elections for these two positions are held every April to elect a Representative and a Coordinator for the following academic year.  In consultation with each other, these two persons will carry out the goals established by members of Women’s Caucus.  The 2005 Women's Caucus Representative is Jennifer Guiliano and the 2005 Women's Caucus Coordinator is Erica Fraser.

Women's Caucus Representative: The person holding this position will fulfill the duties of Women’s Caucus that accompany its seat on the Graduate Committee.  These duties include the following:

  • Attend Graduate Committee meetings as a representative of Women’s Caucus 
  • (approximately three times per semester)
  • Gather concerns of Women’s Caucus members to present to the Graduate Committee
  • Prepare information and handouts for the Graduate Committee on issues of interest to the Women’s Caucus
  • Assist the Graduate Committee in setting an agenda for the academic year
  • Serve as a liaison between the Graduate Committee or the Director of Graduate 
  • Studies and the members of the Women’s Caucus between meetings of the Graduate Committee
  • Consult regularly with the Women’s Caucus Coordinator to create programs 
  • and/or make executive decisions
  • Attend departmental functions as a representative of Women’s Caucus

Women's Caucus Coordinator: The person holding this position will fulfill the duties of theWomen’s Caucus that grow out of its functions outside of the Graduate Committee interaction. This position is concerned with daily operations and the logistics of Women’s Caucus educational and social functions.  The duties of this position include the following:

  • Establish and monitor an email list for Women’s Caucus members
  • Coordinate social and educational events for the Women’s Caucus.  This may include 
  • contacting panelists, requesting rooms, sending announcements, and other assorted administrative duties.
  • Oversee recruitment and retention programs, such as letter-writing campaigns 
  • and the Women’s Caucus mentor program.
  • Consult regularly with the Women’s Caucus Representative to create programs and/or make executive decisions.
  • Archive Women’s Caucus material for future reference.
  • Fulfill other assorted duties not directly associated with the Graduate 
  • Committee.
